TikTok Shop has become a serious sales channel quickly. Momentum Works and Tabcut put its global gross merchandise value at $50.3 billion in the first half of 2026, up 92% on a year earlier, with US sales roughly doubling (Tubefilter). For brands already on Shopify, the obvious move is a Shopify TikTok Shop integration that publishes products, keeps stock in step and brings orders back to fulfil.

The official app does much of that well. It also has firm limits, and when a product will not sync, the reason is not always obvious. This guide is for Shopify merchants setting up TikTok Shop, or fighting sync problems with it. Connecting Shopify with TikTok Shop is part of the automation work I do, so this covers how the official integration behaves, how to fix the usual errors, and when a custom integration on TikTok Shop's API is worth it.

How the official Shopify TikTok Shop integration works

TikTok's app for Shopify, which shows up in your admin as the TikTok sales channel, connects one Shopify store to a TikTok Shop account and syncs catalogue, inventory, fulfilment and orders between them (Shopify Help Center). It is free to install. Shopify's requirements are a verifiable address in your Locations settings, an online store, a TikTok for Business account and a return policy page, and it lists the integration for stores in the US, UK, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Japan and Brazil.

The rule that explains most of its behaviour is that Shopify is the source of truth:

  • Products and inventory flow from Shopify to TikTok Shop. If you edit a product in TikTok Seller Center, the next sync overwrites it, apart from TikTok-only fields such as weight, dimensions and certifications.
  • Prices follow Shopify too. TikTok's own setup guide says pricing in TikTok Shop matches Shopify, and price changes made in Shopify carry across when automatic sync is on (TikTok).
  • Orders flow the other way, from TikTok Shop into Shopify, where you fulfil them. A new order can be on hold for up to an hour before it arrives.
  • Returns and refunds are handled in TikTok Seller Center, not in Shopify.

Limits to check before you connect

TikTok's guide to the app sets out limits that decide whether it fits your business:

  • One Shopify store to one TikTok Shop account. Several stores, or several TikTok Shops, need another approach.
  • US businesses and US warehouses for a US TikTok Shop, with up to 45 warehouse locations.
  • No bundles. Bundled products do not sync as bundles.
  • Existing TikTok orders are not imported. Only orders placed after you connect come into Shopify.
  • Returns live in Seller Center, so your returns process has two homes.

If one of these is a deal-breaker, it is better to know before launch than after.

Setting up the integration step by step

  1. Tidy the catalogue in Shopify first. Every variant needs a unique SKU, a clear title, good images and an accurate weight. Whatever is wrong in Shopify will be wrong on TikTok.
  2. Check your locations. Each location the channel uses needs a complete, verifiable address.
  3. Publish a return policy page on your online store.
  4. Install the TikTok channel from the Shopify App Store and connect or create your TikTok Shop account.
  5. Sync one collection first, not the whole catalogue, so the first errors are few and easy to read.
  6. Fill in TikTok-only fields in Seller Center, such as package dimensions and any certificates your category needs.
  7. Check product status in Seller Center: approved, pending or needing changes.
  8. Place a test order and follow it through Shopify, fulfilment and tracking.

Common TikTok Shop sync errors and how to fix them

"My edits in Seller Center keep disappearing." That is the source-of-truth rule working as designed. Make the change in Shopify and let it sync.

Products stuck in review or rejected. TikTok checks listings against its rules on prohibited items, restricted content and product claims. Open the flagged product in Seller Center to see the reason, fix it in Shopify rather than in Seller Center, and let the next sync resubmit it.

SKU mismatches. Duplicate or missing SKUs, or variants deleted and recreated after the first sync, can leave products and stock out of step between the two. Give every variant a unique SKU before connecting, and edit variants rather than replacing them once they are live.

Orders missing from Shopify. First, wait: orders can be on hold for up to an hour. Second, check the date: orders placed before you connected are never imported. If newer orders are still missing, look for errors on the channel in Shopify and contact TikTok support from the sales channel.

Stock that does not match. Check which Shopify locations are assigned to the channel; if stock sits in a location TikTok does not use, the numbers will differ. Bundles are a common culprit too, because the app does not calculate a bundle's stock from its components.

"Location address issue". Shopify's troubleshooting note for this error says location names must be 35 characters or fewer. Shorten the name and make sure the address is complete.

Multi-warehouse fulfilment, including Amazon MCF

Up to 45 warehouse locations covers most brands shipping from their own stock or a 3PL. The real questions are which warehouse fulfils each TikTok order, and whether that matches the stock each location reports.

If your stock sits in Amazon FBA, TikTok Shop orders can ship through Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment. In August 2026, TikTok Shop's US Academy published a page listing nine apps that connect TikTok Shop to MCF, installed through the TikTok Shop App Store, with MCF orders shipping in unbranded packaging (PPC Land). Order fulfilment with Amazon MCF covers routing rules between FBA, a 3PL and your own shelves.

When to go custom with the TikTok Shop API

The official app is the right choice for one store, one TikTok Shop, simple products and stock in supported warehouses. Custom work starts when one of those stops being true:

  • Several stores or brands feeding one TikTok Shop, or one store selling through several TikTok Shops.
  • Bundles and kits whose stock has to come from their components.
  • Routing rules the app cannot express, such as some orders to FBA and others to a 3PL.
  • One catalogue across channels, with TikTok Shop as one of several marketplaces fed from the same data and stock; see how to stop overselling across channels.
  • Reporting that puts TikTok Shop next to Shopify and Amazon.

TikTok Shop's Open API, run through its Partner Center, gives programmatic access to products, orders, fulfilment, finance and more. An app is registered as an OAuth client with the scopes it needs, can subscribe to webhooks, and is tested against a development shop before going live (TikTok Shop Partner Center). Smaller jobs may not need the API at all: tagging or holding TikTok orders can often be handled inside Shopify with Shopify Flow.

What a Shopify TikTok Shop integration costs

The official app is free to install. TikTok's own selling fees vary by country and change from time to time, so check the current ones in Seller Center rather than relying on a blog post.

A custom integration on TikTok Shop's Open API and Shopify's Admin API means two channels with stock and orders kept in sync, which is my Flexible plan for marketplace and ecommerce apps, from $5,500, dashboard included. A single job, such as routing TikTok orders to a 3PL or building one report, fits the MVP plan, from $2,500. Both are starting prices, and each project is quoted at a fixed price after a short brief. See the marketplace app plans and the Shopify and TikTok Shop section of my ecommerce page.

FAQ

Why are my TikTok Shop orders not syncing to Shopify?

Start with timing: the official app can hold a new TikTok order for up to an hour before it appears in Shopify. Orders placed before you connected the app are never imported. If recent orders are still missing, check the TikTok sales channel in Shopify for errors, and check that the products in the order are linked to Shopify variants with matching SKUs. If everything looks right, contact TikTok support through the sales channel.

Can I connect more than one Shopify store to one TikTok Shop?

Not with the official app, which links one Shopify store to one TikTok Shop account. Brands with several stores, or one store selling through several TikTok Shops, need a third-party connector or a custom integration built on TikTok Shop's Open API and Shopify's Admin API. A custom build can decide which store fulfils each order and keep stock in step across all of them.

Can Amazon FBA fulfil my TikTok Shop orders?

Yes, in the US. TikTok Shop's guidance lists apps that connect TikTok Shop to Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment, installed through the TikTok Shop App Store, so orders ship from your FBA stock in unbranded packaging. You pay Amazon's fulfilment fees plus whatever the connecting app charges. If you also sell on Shopify, decide which channels draw on FBA stock and keep that count separate from the stock you ship yourself.
